Gastric Reflux

Gastric Reflux - My brother has been plagued with stomach problems most of his life, as have I. We both had a bout with GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease), although my brother also had a peptic ulcer in his teens. The literature does help to reduce the incidence of acid reflux, but by no means is there a definitive “cure”.

Our experience with acid reflux is one of stress, not of “poor eating habits” or “weak contraction of the LES (Lower Esophageal Sphincter)”. Although my experience in particular is strange to say the least, I have a pituitary tumor and after my second surgery, my GERD had disappeared, although I have bigger problems now.

I am not much of a snack/junk food eater, but I noticed that if I ate milk chocolate I would feel better for a while. But the common literature is correct, stay away from acidic foods and eating late. Elevate your head when you sleep, so it doesn’t feel like someone put a hot coal in your throat when you wake up.
